Missouri Tavern
"A Wisconsin Original"
The Missouri Tavern, Home of the Apple Pie,
is a true Wisconsin Original. Located in the Town of Springfield, WI,
the Missouri Tavern was built in 1940 by the late Albert
“Missouri Al” Mefford and his wife Mae. The Missouri Tavern acted
as their home, convenience store, gas station, and tavern for 65 years.
Noted for the large elm tree located out front, the Missouri Tavern
is most famous for the legendary Mae Mefford. Sole owner, operator, and
bartender to the age of 101, Mae’s gentle heart touched anyone who came
by for a visit. Today, the Hasse family owns and operates the
Missouri Tavern with the same local charm as Mae once did. Patrons
love to stop by and share great memories and stories of Mae. Some of the
most shared memories are of Mae playing “On Wisconsin” or “Meet Me In
St. Louis” on the piano. The no profanity policy that she strictly
enforced still brings a smile to everyone’s face.
